Spiritual Emphasis Weeks - February 29, 2008

Grades K-6 - The theme for their February 11th – 13th Spiritual Emphasis Week was “Growing for God”. The elementary school teachers planned something exciting for each morning’s lesson as the children were taught how to grow spiritually through the garden growing example. What helps a garden grow? What hinders that growth? Parallels were made concerning spiritual growth. Each day there was also a fun craft and snack related to the theme. The service project is to collect change for World Vision to purchase goats. This project will continue until Easter.
Grades 7-11 – This past week was Spiritual Emphasis Week for grades 7-12. We have been blessed by the ministry of Coastlands Consultants: Dr. Pam Brady (well known and loved by the staff from the ACSI Conventions in Sturbridge!), Miss Jan Michaelson, Mr. Matt Huffman, and Mr. Ben Greenier. The theme has been: “CRAZY”! There have been devotional times, skits, music, journaling, one-on-one discussions, “coffee can” time, etc., etc.
John 15:19b “You do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.”
“C” Choose whom you will serve!
“R” Rebel with a Cause!
“A” Attitude of Christ!
“Z” Zeal!
“Y” Youth!

You will want to know this . . . - December 3, 2007

Soon the movie “The Golden Compass” will be released. It is an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy called “His Dark Materials” by the English author Philip Pullman, an outspoken
atheist. Reviews indicate that the film itself is unlikely to offend, because religion has been kept out of it. However, the movie is made for the trilogy books to become bestsellers. The
atheist author is hoping moviegoers will run to the bookstores to purchase the books for Christmas gifts. One review states, “ . . . the antireligious themes get progressively stronger with each book in the trilogy; in the final installment, the characters succeed in killing a character called God . . . “. You can find a review on a website of Focus on the Family at www.pluggedinonlin.com. It is valuable information providing a critical and important review with a Christian perspective.

In His Service,
Mrs. Whitman, Principal

Fine Arts Catalog Supply Information - December 3, 2007

The following is not a list of required materials you will need to purchase for your child for art class, but simply art supply resources if you’re interested. Mrs. Avis can supply parents and students with reference order pages for specialized art kits such as calligraphy, basket weaving kits, leather tooling, wood craft, soap making, jewelry, metal embossing, stone carving, sculpting clay, lino block cutting, wood cut, air brushing, etc. and many art texts. Excellent prices on quality pastels, color pencils, sketch books, markers, paint, and art portfolio and art display books. I recommend a value purchase of an art display, storage book to keep students’ art recorded in a flip through protected portfolio: 8 ½ x 11” @ $4.25 to 14” x 17” @ $12.00. Borrow an art catalog at the NDCS office to peruse and/or request specific information from Mrs. Avis.
